Catalogue of editions by the late Michael Procter

Scoring

Singers around the world will be pleased to know that Edition Michael Procter is available again, following the sad death of Michael Procter in 2012. His large collection of sacred choral music by renaissance composers is a very valuable resource for choirs, churches and music lovers.

There are an estimated 850 pieces in the catalogue (including versions offered in different transpositions), mostly transcribed by Michael from original sources in libraries all over Europe. These will be verified and re-catalogued over the next few years.

Orders and enquiries are welcome now at info@edition-mp.com and will be produced and sold by Peacock Press.

Office of the Dead - Respond ISMN M-2056-1275-7

Hassler, Hans Leo, Missa sine nomine a 12 EMP1286 £14.60
General Use - Mass Ordinary ISMN M-2056-1286-3
This is the largest-scale mass by Hassler, and is interesting on a number of counts. (i) It is a reworking of his only 8-voice Mass; (ii) its scoring varies not only from one to three 4-voice choirs but the first Kyrie is for two 5-voice choirs (the Christe just for one of these); (iii) the Credo is for two 4-voice choirs (the Crucifixus for four voices). Most unusually, it is in vocal clefs throughout, and is thus one of the few pieces of this size which can legitimately be sung 'a capella', although instrumental doubling is entirely authentic practice. The piece is in high clefs and is offered a 4th lower.
