Merulo, Claudio, Beata viscera Mariae Virginis EMP0516 £2.00
Marian Feasts - Communion ISMN M-2056-0516-2
A beautiful setting of the familiar Marian piece, originally cleffed TrSMAABa. It is usually offered transposed down a tone or down a fourth.
Merulo, Claudio, Exaudi me Domine EMP0730 £3.00
Ash Wednesday ISMN M-2056-0730-2
This is a setting of Ps 68, 17-19, which does not appear to have a specific liturgical function. However, the first part of the text, in the variant Exaudi nos Domine...respice nos Domine is the Antiphon for the blessing of ashes before Mass on Ash Wednesday. .
Wert, Giaches de, Vox clamantis in deserto EMP0490 £3.00
Advent - Motet general ISMN M-2056-0490-5
The opening of Vox clamantis is an antiphon sung in Advent. Wert's setting is of a longer version of the text from Isaiah Chapter 40, which will be familiar from Handel's The Messiah: Every valley shall be exalted... The extraordinary ranges, deriving obviously from the text, make this splendid piece a challenge for any group.
